What Makes ClosureFast™ So Effective for Varicose Veins?

This time of year is a great time to review what you want to bring into the coming new year and what you’d rather leave behind. For most people, varicose veins fall into that second category — things to leave behind.

These pesky veins affect millions of Americans — 11 million men and 22 million women — and, once they form, they won’t go away on their own.

This is why Dr. Satjit Bhusri and his team created The Upper East Side Vein Institute — to offer patients a way to quickly and easily banish varicose veins from their legs. Though we offer a range of treatments, we want to focus on one here — ClosureFast®. Here’s a look at why ClosureFast is so popular.

Assessing your varicose veins

To get started, we first make you comfortable on the treatment table, and then we assess your varicose veins using ultrasound to guide us. This preliminary and painless investigation allows us to see the extent of the varicose vein(s) so that we can make a more precise treatment plan.

Shutting down varicose veins with ClosureFast

After your ultrasound, we get to work with our ClosureFast system. With this innovative technology, we thread a catheter into the varicose vein and get it into position, again using ultrasound to guide us.

Once the catheter is where we want it, we send heat energy through the device. This heat is designed to be absorbed by the walls of your blood vessel. Once absorbed, the heating energy will shrink and, eventually, seal the vein shut.

Once the vein is sealed, your body reabsorbs the remnants of the blood vessel and diverts your blood to healthier vessels.

Many of our patients are concerned about vein treatments and their effect on leg circulation, and we assure you that it’s negligible. The reality is that 90% of the circulation duties in your legs fall to blood vessels that are much deeper inside your legs. Varicose veins, on the other hand, develop in surface veins that aren’t responsible for much circulation in the first place.

After your ClosureFast procedure

We perform the ClosureFast procedure on an outpatient basis, which means you can go home the same day. We do ask that you wear compression stockings for the next couple of weeks to help with circulation in your legs. We also want you to elevate your legs whenever possible during your recovery.

In terms of when you can expect results after ClosureFast, it takes time for your body to reabsorb the treated varicose vein, so be patient. In most cases, after about six weeks, you’ll be rewarded with smooth, varicose vein-free legs.

So, if you want to enter the new year free and clear of varicose veins, we invite you to explore our effective ClosureFast treatment further.
