Tired of Hiding Your Legs? The Benefits of Asclera® for Spider Veins

Apr 06, 2026

We are often asked how common spider veins are, and we can say with confidence that they’re quite common. This confidence is backed by many studies over the years that confirm our own findings, prompting one analysis to conclude that, “Most adults will eventually develop some form of spider veins in their lifetime.”

If you have spider veins on your legs that you aren’t thrilled to have, Dr. Satjit Bhusri and the team at The Upper East Side Vein Institute have some good news — we can help you wave goodbye to spider veins with our FDA-approved Asclera® treatment.

In the following, we review some of the many benefits of using Asclera to address pesky spider veins.

A quick word about spider veins

Before we get into the benefits of Asclera, it can be helpful to review what we’re up against when it comes to spider veins.

In reality, spider veins don’t really occur in your veins, but in much smaller blood vessels called capillaries that are fed by both veins and arteries. Spider veins can develop for several reasons, including:

  • Hormone fluctuations
  • Genetics
  • Trauma
  • Venous insufficiency
  • Sun exposure

Though spider veins can affect both sexes, they tend to appear more in women, which is largely due to hormones and pregnancy.

From a medical standpoint, spider veins usually aren't cause for concern. From a cosmetic standpoint, however, not many people are pleased with their appearance on their legs.

Unfortunately, once a spider vein forms, it won’t go away on its own. Fortunately, we can fight back with Asclera.

The Asclera difference

Asclera was approved by the FDA to treat spider veins, as well as reticular veins, which are also known as feeder veins to your spider veins. There are several impressive advantages in using Asclera to clear your legs of these veins, including:

Asclera is a permanent solution for spider veins

Asclera contains polidocanol, which we inject directly into the spider veins. This active ingredient seals the vein by damaging the blood vessel lining, causing it to clot. At that point, your body absorbs the remnants and replaces them with normal tissue.

Rest assured, if there was any blood flowing through the spider vein, it would reroute to healthier blood vessels.

Asclera is quick and easy

As we mentioned, we deliver Asclera via injection, and we typically only need to make one to three of these for each vein that we treat. So, in most cases, we can have you in and out in less than an hour.

There’s no downtime after Asclera

After your Asclera treatment, you’re free to get back to your normal routine straight away, with a few exceptions. For example, we do ask that you avoid heavy exercise, sun exposure, and hot baths for a few days after your Asclera treatment.

We also recommend wearing compression socks for a certain period after your Asclera treatment for improved blood flow in your lower legs. As for how long, we can discuss that during your treatment.

A short road to spider vein-free legs

After your Asclera treatment, you can expect your treated veins to fade away over the course of a few weeks.

Treating your spider and reticular veins with Asclera is convenient and quick, which are two words you want to hear with any procedure.
