Spider veins really are an appropriately named vascular condition as they appear as tiny pink/red/blue webs across your legs. And no one really wants spiders or webs on their legs, do they?
Unfortunately, spider veins affect millions of Americans, including 50% of women thanks to hormones. Though women may be twice as likely to develop spider veins, make no mistake, men can develop them, too.
No matter your gender, if you’ve developed spider veins on your legs, and you’d really like for them to disappear, Dr. Satjit Bhusri and the team at The Upper East Side Vein Institute have just the treatment you need. Called Asclera®, here’s how you’re just a few injections away from spider vein-free legs.
Asclera is specifically designed to treat spider and reticular veins, and we want to briefly dive into these vascular conditions.
First up are spider veins, which we’ve already mentioned affects millions of Americans, so they’re quite common. This condition is mostly harmless because they affect tiny blood vessels called capillaries, venules, and arterioles. Note that we did not list veins as, despite the name, they don’t affect veins.
Poor terminology aside, spider veins typically develop due to the blood vessels weakening and expanding under your skin, which can be due to hormones, trauma, and genetics, to name a few.
Asclera also treats reticular veins, so we want to touch on those. Unlike spider veins, this issue does form in your veins, but reticular veins are smaller than varicose veins — they’re usually between 1mm and 3mm — and they don’t bulge.
If, after our vein evaluation, we find that you have treatable spider and/or reticular veins, our first stop is Asclera.
The key ingredient in Asclera is polidocanol, which is a sclerosing agent that seals the blood vessel, causing it to shut down. At that point, your body steps in and reabsorbs the now obsolete blood vessel, replacing it with tissue.
As you might imagine by their size, the blood vessels in which spider veins and reticular veins typically form aren’t responsible for any significant or meaningful circulation duties. So, after your treatment, your body won’t skip a beat, and blood will reroute to healthier vessels.
In most cases, we only need to administer one to three injections to treat each spider or reticular vein, leaving you free to go home afterward. For tough or numerous veins, we may perform a series of Asclera treatments, which we can spread apart by a week or two.
Following your Asclera treatments, it will take a few weeks for the blood vessels to seal and be reabsorbed. During this time, it’s helpful for you to wear compression stockings.
In no time at all, your patience will be rewarded, and you’ll be thrilled to show off your legs with confidence again.
So, if you want your spider veins to go away, it’s time to schedule your Asclera appointment. To set that in motion, you can call our New York City office on the Upper East Side of Manhattan at 212-752-3464. You can also schedule an appointment online by clicking here.
