Get Ready for Summer: How ClosureFast™ Can Banish Varicose Veins

There’s nothing like spring in New York — as the blooms open and the temperatures rise, New Yorkers shed those bulky winter clothes for more revealing wear. Except you aren’t among them, thanks to the varicose veins you’re hiding under long pants.

If you want to step out with more confidence, it’s time to explore varicose vein treatments. Millions of Americans — about one in four adults, to be more precise — have varicose veins, which explains why more than half a million vein treatments are performed each year.

Here at The Upper East Side Vein Institute, Dr. Satjit Bhusri and the team of vascular experts have done extensive research on the best vein treatments for varicose veins, and we want to highlight one of these here — ClosureFast®. Read on to learn how this quick-and-easy vein treatment can restore your legs to their former, smooth selves, allowing you to bare your legs with confidence this summer.

A quick word about varicose veins and sclerotherapy

When you develop varicose veins, these occur in the superficial veins in your legs, which are only responsible for about 10% of the blood flow out of your legs (deeper veins in your legs do most of the heavy lifting).

We mention this because many people are worried that vein treatments (sclerotherapy) will negatively impact circulation in your legs, which isn’t the case. When we treat a varicose vein, any blood that circulates through the vein will find healthier blood vessels once we render the vein inactive.

Banishing varicose veins with ClosureFast

Now that we understand that vein treatments like ClosureFast won’t affect your circulation, let’s look at how this form of sclerotherapy works.

There are four steps with ClosureFast:

Step 1

First, we place a catheter into the affected vein and use ultrasound to guide the catheter into position.

Step 2

To ensure your comfort, we inject a local anesthetic into the treatment area — about 5-10 injections.

Step 3

Once you’re comfortable, we release radiofrequency energy through the catheter to heat the walls of the varicose vein.

Step 4

We remove the catheter and seal the vein as we go. Once we remove the catheter entirely, we place you in a compression stocking that will aid in the sealing pressure.

Afterward, and once we make sure that everything went well, you’re free to return home.

Moving forward after ClosureFast

After your ClosureFast treatment, we ask that you take it easy for a few days — no strenuous exercise or prolonged standing — but we do want you to move around to encourage circulation.

After a couple of days, you should be able to return to most of your normal activities.

Over the following weeks, the sealed vein will be gradually reabsorbed by your body, and you can watch the vein slowly disappear from the surface of your skin.

And these results should go the distance — ClosureFast reports a nearly 92% closure rate after five years.

So, if you’re anxious to bare those legs this summer, we have you covered with ClosureFast.
